Education is the key to expand possibilities for future.

As CAYT, we are also encouraging children to go to school because we believe education expand their possibilities for future. Having literacy and numeracy, having accomplishment of certain education level increase options of children's and youth's future. But, unfortunately in Uganda or at refugee settlements, not all children and youth can go to school. Or even if they succeed to enroll in school, some of them end up drop out or stop schooling especially when they transit from primary education to secondary education, and secondary education and tertiary education.

Why -? Some of them cannot afford school fees. Although the Government of Uganda has been practicing universal primary and secondary education (free access to education), however, reality is that parents/guardians how to pay for some money for schooling including uniforms, school meals, learning materials, transport etc. Due to the funding cuts which affect food security, school drop out has been increasing because they cannot afford school fees and need to search food. As result, children are now at protection risk, such as child marriage, teenage pregnancy, involvement of sexual exploitation, child labours, and mental health. Also, sometimes, parents/guardians prefer not to send children to let them support family.

CAYT has been also supporting children who cannot go to school but have strong willingness to wish to go to school. Through supports from the good Samaritans in our network, we have been supporting school fees, stationery and clothes to children in need. CAYT talk to parents/guardians to explain what we support and request understanding and cooperation for children's/youth's schooling because parents/guardians have right to provide education to their children and youth. We also talk to children/youth to respect and follow discipline.

Investment in education, in other words, investment in children means investment in future and hope. Children cannot choose how they grow up and deserve to have better life. If you are interested in supporting children, please kindly contact us. We are grateful to hear from you.
